Long-acting injectables (LAIs) can be life-changing, but if it’s your first time, you probably have questions.
Will it hurt? How often do I need it? Where do I go?
At SmartCare RX, we’ve helped hundreds of patients navigate their LAI therapy. Here’s what to expect... step by step.
What Is an LAI?
A long-acting injectable is a medication that stays in your system and releases slowly over time. Instead of taking a daily pill, you might receive an injection every 2, 4, or even 12 weeks.
LAIs are commonly prescribed for:
- Schizophrenia or bipolar disorder
- ADHD or autism (in specific cases)
- Hormone therapy or birth control
- Addiction treatment (like Vivitrol)
- And more
Step 1: Prescription from Your Provider
Your doctor or psychiatrist will determine if you’re a good fit for an LAI and send the prescription to SmartCare RX. We’ll confirm coverage and coordinate from there.
Step 2: Delivery or In-Home Administration
Once approved, we offer:
- Direct delivery of the medication to your home (with care instructions)
- In-home nurse visits for patients in Central Florida
- Support to coordinate with your provider’s office if needed
Our goal: no pharmacy hopping, no delays, no confusion.
Step 3: Follow-Up + Reminders
We’ll text or call you before your next dose is due. You’ll never have to guess when it’s time for your next injection.
If your schedule changes? No problem. Just reach out—we make it easy to reschedule or re-ship.
Why Patients Love LAIs
- Less chance of missing a dose
- Better symptom stability
- Fewer ER visits or hospitalizations
- Reduced risk of involuntary psychiatric holds (Baker Acts)
- No need to remember daily meds
